Mission
The DeAnza Physical Education Department's mission is to provide a high-quality physical education curriculum to facilitate students in improving their quality of life. Together, we strive for good health, developing fundamental motor skills, improving self-confidence, and improving levels of physical fitness which improve academic achievement.

Course Emphasis:
The goals and objective of this course align with the California State Standards for Physical Education. To meet these objectives a variety of activities are used to keep our students intrigued and motivated to exercise. In addition to daily physical activity and written tests, the "Prudential Fitness" test will be used to assess student attainment of the standards. All Physical Education instructors expect student Participation and Movement to ensure that students develop competence in:
1. Knowledge and demonstration of physical fitness concepts, principles and strategies.
2. Knowledge and demonstration of motor skills and movement patterns.
3. Assess and maintain level of fitness to improve health and performance
4. Psychological and social concepts, principles and strategies in performance.
Course Expectations:
CLASS PROCEDURES
A. Be in the locker room when the tardy bell rings. Students late to class will not be permitted to dress, will
be required to participate in class, and daily points will be substracted.
B. Dress daily for class in proper physical education uniform (Data grey t-shirt & black shorts, athletic
socks, & athletic shoes.).
C. Go directly to the roll call spot from the locker room and be sitting down completely dressed, before the
tardy bell rings.
D. When the shower bell rings, line up where specified by your instructor, to be dismissed to the locker
room.
E. After dressing, report to roll call spot - instructor will dismiss you to your next class.

LOCKS, LOCKERS AND LOCKER ROOM
A. Only DATA Physical Education locks are to be used on physical education lockers. Students must use
only the locker assigned to them.
B. Students are to enter and exit locker room through the proper doors only.
C. Any type of running/horseplay or whistling is not allowed in the locker room.
D. Abuse of these rules will result in the lost of locker room privileges for a minimum of 2 weeks.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION MEDICAL EXCUSES
A. A parent's note will be honored for a maximum of three consecutive days. This note does not excuse a
student from attending class, dressing in the physical education uniform, or participation at an adapted
level.
B. A doctor's note is required for more than three days of total non-participation. The student will be given
an alternative assigment to complete.
GRADES
All students can be successful in the Data Physical Education program. The following percentage scale will be used to determine your progress report and quarter academic report grades. Your academic grade will be based on student competence of:
1. Knowledge and demonstration of physical fitness concepts, principles and strategies.
2. Knowledge and demonstration of motor skills and movement patterns.
3. Assess and maintain level of fitness to improve health and performance
4. Psychological and social concepts, principles and strategies in performance.
You will be graded on a point system. The number of points will determine a percentage score. You can match the percentage (in the scale below) with the letter grade to see at what level you are performing.
You will also receive a responsibility grade which will include activity completion, citizenship, attendance, and participation in class.
A = 90-100%
B = 80-89%
C = 70-79%
D = 60-69%
F = 0-59%
INCOMPLETE OR LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!!! I will allow students to make up points missed due to excused absences or days the student had a parent note or excuse. It is the student's responsibility to contact and arrange the method of make up with his/her teacher.
